A verdict for every pair
Our other reports look thousands of years back. This one answers the question closest to home: how are these people related? Every pair among the kits you upload is compared position by position, and each pair gets a degree — parent and child, full siblings, second degree, third degree, or no close relationship. €29.99 covers a two-kit order; each additional kit, up to five, adds €10.00 — a father, a mother and a child is one €39.99 order with three verdicts.
The verdict never stands alone. Beside it you see the kinship coefficient against its expected band, the rate of outright-opposite positions (the measure that separates a parent from a sibling), the total shared DNA in centimorgans, and every shared segment drawn in place on the 22 chromosomes. Your order also delivers a cinematic film — one scene per pair, the verdict and the painting animated in sequence — rendered on our own servers and downloadable from the report.
Honest about what DNA can say
DNA measures how much two people share, not which side of the family it came from: a half-sibling, a grandparent and an aunt all land in the same band. Past about third degree the signal genuinely blurs, so we never report a "distant cousin". And when a pair sits near the boundary between two degrees, the report says so — a borderline verdict is labelled borderline, never rounded up to certainty.

Built for real families
A father, a mother and a child in one order gives you three verdicts at once — both parent-child bonds confirmed, and the parents shown unrelated. Suspected half-siblings, an adoptee and a possible grandparent, cousins who want certainty: upload the kits together and read every pair side by side.
Questions
What exactly does the verdict say?
Each pair of kits gets a relationship degree — same DNA (a duplicate kit or identical twins), parent and child, full siblings, second degree, third degree, or no close relationship — plus the evidence behind it: the kinship coefficient, the opposite-site rate, and every shared segment. DNA measures how much two people share, so the verdict is a degree, not a named relationship: a half-sibling, a grandparent and an aunt all share the same amount, and only family knowledge separates them.
Can it tell a parent from a sibling?
Usually, yes — they share the same total amount of DNA but in visibly different patterns. A parent and child share one copy at essentially every position, with almost no positions where the two read outright opposite; full siblings have long stretches where both copies match and other stretches where neither does. The report shows both measures, and when a pair sits near the boundary it says so instead of picking a side.
Can DNA tell if we are half-siblings or full siblings?
Yes — that distinction is one DNA answers well. Full siblings share about half their DNA and carry long stretches where both copies match; half-siblings share about a quarter, with essentially none of those fully-matching stretches. The two land in different degree bands, so the report separates them. The honest caveat: the half-sibling band also holds a grandparent and an aunt or uncle — the DNA says second degree, and family knowledge does the naming.
Can I check if someone is my biological parent with a 23andMe or AncestryDNA file?
Yes — parent and child is the clearest verdict a DNA comparison can give: the two share one copy at essentially every tested position, with almost no positions reading outright opposite. Upload both raw files (they do not need to come from the same company) and the pair receives its verdict with the evidence beside it. It is not a legal paternity test, though — courts require a documented chain of custody that a consumer file cannot provide.
How distant a relationship can it detect?
Reliably to about third degree — first cousins, great-grandparents, great-aunts and -uncles. Beyond that the shared amount varies so much between real families that no consumer-kit comparison can call it honestly, which is why we never report a fourth-degree or 'distant cousin' verdict. 'No close relationship' means exactly that: nothing within about three degrees.
What do I upload?
One raw DNA export per person — 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, FTDNA and similar files all work, and the kits do not need to come from the same company. Two to five kits per order; every pair among them is compared.
How is it priced?
€29.99 covers a two-kit order. Each additional kit, up to five in total, adds €10 — so three kits are €39.99, four are €49.99 and five are €59.99. Every pair among the kits is compared and receives its own verdict, so a five-kit order delivers ten verdicts.
Do the people in the kits need to consent?
Yes. You are uploading other people's genetic data, so at checkout you confirm that every kit's owner has given you permission. Their kits are processed only for this comparison, stored on EU infrastructure under GDPR, and deleted with the order.
Do different test companies' kits compare fairly?
Yes, with one honest caveat: different chips test different positions, so two kits are compared only where both carry a call. The report states exactly how many positions each pair shared, and refuses to issue a verdict at all when the overlap is too thin to be defensible — rather than issuing a weak one silently.
What are half-identical and fully-identical segments?
A half-identical segment is a stretch where the two people always share at least one of their two copies — what parents and children have along their whole genome. A fully-identical segment is a stretch where both copies match, which mostly only full siblings (and identical twins) have. The chromosome painting draws both, in two colours, exactly where they sit.
Does ancestry background skew the result?
No — the kinship estimator we use (KING-robust) is specifically designed to work without reference-population frequencies, so two people from different ancestral backgrounds are compared as fairly as two from the same one. That choice is the reason we did not use the older, frequency-based estimators, which inflate relatedness across populations.
Which chromosomes are compared?
The 22 autosomes. The X chromosome has a different inheritance pattern and would need its own statistics; comparing it the same way would quietly bias verdicts between male and female pairs.
Is this a paternity test?
It is not a legal one. The genetics of a parent-child verdict here is the same signal a court-ordered test reads, but legal paternity testing requires a documented chain of custody over the samples, which a consumer raw-data file cannot provide. Treat the result as personal knowledge, not as evidence for legal proceedings.
Do I get a video of the results?
Yes — every order includes one cinematic film covering every compared pair: each pair's verdict, its kinship figures counting up, and its shared segments sweeping onto the chromosome painting, scene by scene. It is rendered on our own servers at QHD (1440×2560, 60 fps) — never on your phone — and downloaded from the report's Video tab.
Where is my data stored?
On EU infrastructure, in Germany and Finland, under GDPR. You can delete your data at any time, and full account deletion and data export are self-service.
