Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By creating an account, paying for an analysis, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Notice and Refund Policy, which are incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

Ancestrify provides genetic ancestry analysis using qpAdm and related population-genetics methodologies. You upload genotype data you control; we run formal admixture modelling against curated ancient and modern reference panels and return a written report. Results are intended for personal, informational, educational, and recreational use.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account or purchase an analysis. The Service is not intended for use by children. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

4. Your account

Authentication is provided by Auth0. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your sign-in credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at info@ancestrify.io if you suspect unauthorised access.

5. Pricing and payment

The current price for an Ancestrify analysis is shown on our pricing section and at checkout. Prices are stated in the currency presented to you and may be exclusive or inclusive of taxes depending on your billing jurisdiction.

Card payments are processed by Banka Kombëtare Tregtare Sh.a. ("BKT"), our acquiring bank. Ancestrify is the merchant of record. Cards accepted: Visa and Mastercard (credit and debit). Charges are presented in EUR and appear on the cardholder statement as ANCESTRIFY. Card data is captured on BKT's PCI-DSS-compliant hosted payment page; Ancestrify does not store full PAN or CVV. Ancestrify handles billing, tax collection and remittance, invoicing, fraud prevention, and chargebacks. Receipts and invoices are issued by Ancestrify.

6. Refunds

Refunds are handled in accordance with our Refund Policy. In short: you may request a refund before your analysis is run. Once a report has been generated and made available to you, the analysis is considered fully delivered and is no longer refundable, except where required by applicable law or where we are unable to deliver the Service.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• upload genotype data that is not yours or that you do not have explicit, informed permission from the data subject to submit;
• use the Service to identify, re-identify, profile, harass, or surveil any individual other than yourself;
• attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract our reference panels, model parameters, or proprietary datasets;
• interfere with the integrity, security, or availability of the Service, or attempt to bypass authentication, rate limits, or access controls;
• use the Service to make medical, diagnostic, paternity, forensic, immigration, insurance, or employment decisions; or
• use the Service in violation of any applicable law or regulation.

8. Genetic data you provide

You retain all rights in the genotype data you upload. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to process that data for the sole purpose of operating the Service for you (running the analysis, generating your report, providing support, securing the Service, and complying with our legal obligations). We will not sell your genotype data, and we will not share it with third parties except as described in our Privacy Notice.

9. Our content and intellectual property

The Ancestrify Service — including the website, software, analysis pipelines, reference panel curation, written reports (other than the underlying genotype data you provided), trademarks, logos, and content — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to use your report for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not resell, redistribute, or use the report or any part of the Service to develop a competing product.

10. No medical advice; informational use only

Ancestrify is not a medical device, clinical genetic test, or diagnostic service. Our reports are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease and must not be used to make medical, paternity, forensic, immigration, insurance, or employment decisions. Always consult a qualified clinician for medical concerns. Ancestry inference is probabilistic and depends on the reference panels available; results may change as those panels grow.

11. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that any specific result will be achieved.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ancestrify, its affiliates, and its and their officers, directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the analysis giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (including, where applicable, statutory rights of consumers).

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your upload of genotype data you were not authorised to submit.

14. Service changes and availability

We may add, modify, or discontinue features at any time. We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may perform scheduled or emergency maintenance with or without prior notice.

15. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and may request deletion of your account by emailing info@ancestrify.io. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if your account is used to harm the Service or other users, or as required by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing-law provisions — will survive.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where the changes are material, give reasonable notice (for example, by email or in-app notice). Continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms and any dispute arising out of them are governed by the laws of [Jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of [Jurisdiction] will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that consumers may have the right to bring proceedings in their country of residence under mandatory local law.
