Who they were
The Gepids are the forgotten victors of the post-Roman Danube: an East Germanic people who broke the sons of Attila at the river Nedao in 454 and took the Hunnic heartland for themselves, ruling from captured Sirmium for a century until the Lombards and Avars destroyed their kingdom in 567. These genomes come from their Danube–Tisza domain.
