What Genoplot is

Genoplot is a free-to-start analysis platform: a raw DNA upload, 500+ admixture calculators, an nMonte runner and G25 modelling, G25 coordinate simulation, whole-genome imputation, PCA plots, and — on its paid tiers — qpAdm, qpWave and f-statistics with AI-assisted population selection. Its breadth is the point of comparison; its pricing is credit-based.

CriterionAncestrifyGenoplot
MethodThree methods, sold separately: formal qpAdm (ADMIXTOOLS 2, with a p-value), Global25 coordinate fitting (distances, nMonte-style admixture, PCA) and an Ancient Matches shared-segment scan500+ admixture calculators, nMonte / G25 modelling, PCA plots, whole-genome imputation, and Admix+ formal statistics (qpAdm, qpWave, f-statistics) with AI-driven source and outgroup selection
How a qpAdm model is chosenBy a person. Automated rotation was built, measured and removed for its false-discovery rate; every published model is selected and checked by handGuided mode: AI-driven selection picks time- and region-appropriate populations, then rotates combinations until models reach acceptable p-values. Expert mode exposes the ADMIXTOOLS 2 configuration surface
Runs on your raw fileYes — qpAdm, Ancient Matches and Relative Finder run on the raw export directlyYes — uploads from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, FTDNA and MyHeritage are listed
Whole-genome VCF inputYes — whole-genome sequencing VCF up to 1 GB on qpAdm and Ancient Matches (€10 add-on); converted to the panel's markers at upload, not storedWhole-genome imputation of the uploaded raw file is offered. VCF upload: not stated on their site
Global25 coordinatesOnly the official row from the independent Global25 service — pasted, or obtained for you. Ancestrify never computes or simulates coordinatesFree Geno25 (G25) coordinate simulation; paid tiers add an annual bonus of one or two coordinate sets
Published p-value, SE and Z with the full right setEvery qpAdm report publishes the model p-value, each source's weight, standard error and z-score, and the full right (outgroup) setqpAdm output is available on the Basic and Pro tiers. Which statistics are shown: not stated on their site
Run your own qpAdm modelsYes — the Model Lab (€10 one-time unlock on a published report): your own qpAdm runs with your sample as target, up to 100 per rolling day, plus the merged EIGENSTRAT bundle to downloadYes — Admix+ on the Basic and Pro tiers, spending compute credits
Hand-built Personalized CalculatorYes — the Personalized Calculator (€10): an analyst hand-builds a G25 calculator around your own coordinates, published beside the standard resultNot stated on their site
Every-country catalogEvery sovereign state — 199 countries and 1,115 regions — for both qpAdm and Global25800+ populations are advertised on the home page
Matches against individual ancient peopleYes — Ancient Matches scans your genome against every individual in the ancient panel (€29.99)Not stated on their site
Free tools without an accountYes — the Ancestrify Lab's in-browser tools (distance, admixture, PCA, averaging, authenticity, haplotrees, mapper) need no accountA Free tier with 100 compute credits after sign-up and upload

Where each is the better choice

Choose Genoplot if you want the widest library of calculators, whole-genome imputation and a self-serve, AI-guided qpAdm on a credit budget.

Choose Ancestrify if you want a qpAdm model chosen and checked by a person and published with its full statistics, official rather than simulated Global25 coordinates, a calculator hand-built around you, matches against individual ancient people, and one-time pricing with EU hosting.

Ancestrify's side of the table is stated on qpAdm, Global25, Ancient Matches and the Model Lab; the other comparisons are Illustrative DNA, Vahaduo, GEDmatch.

Questions

  • Both offer qpAdm — what is the difference?

Who chooses the model. Genoplot's guided mode rotates population combinations automatically until models reach acceptable p-values, and its expert mode hands you the full configuration surface. Ancestrify built the same kind of automated rotation, measured it, and removed it because the best-scoring rotated model is frequently not the right one; every published Ancestrify model is chosen and checked by hand, and the Model Lab then lets you run your own.

  • Genoplot offers free G25 coordinates — does Ancestrify?

No, and it never will compute them: official Global25 coordinates come only from the independent Eurogenes Global25 service. Genoplot's home page advertises free Geno25 coordinate simulation. Ancestrify's Global25 report runs on the official row you paste, or obtains that official row for you.

  • Which one has more calculators?

Genoplot advertises 500+ admixture and G25 calculators. Ancestrify's curated calculators are fewer and era-scoped, each with its own public page listing every source population — and the Personalized Calculator is built by hand around your own coordinates rather than chosen from a library.

  • Is Ancestrify credit-based?

No. Every Ancestrify product is a one-time payment for a report, with optional one-time add-ons. Genoplot's tiers allocate compute credits per month.

  • How were these facts checked?

Every cell in the Genoplot column was read on genoplot.com on the verification date shown on this page. Where a fact was not stated there, the cell says so.
